Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the treatment of verrucas and warts on the feet (and hands) by podiatrists.
Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue. Multiple verrucas and even warts can be treated at a single session. The treatment is quick, efficient & no anaesthetic or dressings are needed.
Microwave energy is delivered directly to the site of the verruca using a hand-held probe. It sends microwaves to a precise and predetermined depth leaving surrounding tissue undamaged. It targets water molecules within the skin, creating heat. This activates an immune response, which destroys the infected cells.
Like many treatments for skin lesions, some discomfort may be experienced. Before treatment your podiatrist may decide to reduce the lesion with a blade.
Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing swift microwave therapy liken it to to a sudden heat, lasting 2 – 3 seconds but quickly subsiding.
In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities. No dressings are needed and you can get your foot wet.
